Publisher's summaryEdit

Known as the skilled co-pilot of the infamous Millennium Falcon, the legendary Wookiee warrior CHEWBACCA will star in his very own limited comic series! After the battle of Yavin, Chewbacca is on his own when he crash lands his ship on an Imperial occupied planet. Now stranded, Chewie finds himself caught in the middle of trying to return to the rebellion and helping a young and feisty girl in need. Writer Gerry Duggan (DEADPOOL, 1872, HULK) and artist Phil Noto (BLACK WIDOW, X-23, UNCANNY X-FORCE) bring us a never-before-seen tale of the heroic Wookiee we all know and love.[1]

Plot summaryEdit

CHEWBACCA
Part II
It is a period of renewed hope for the galaxy. After
accidentally crash-landing his ship on the Outer
Rim planet Andelm-IV, CHEWBACCA, fearless
warrior son of Kashyyyk, has found himself in
unusual circumstances.

An opportunistic gangster named Jaum has taken
over Andelm-IV, enslaving the people and selling
natural resources to the dreaded Galactic Empire.

Jaum's lone resistance is a young hero named
Zarro, but she can't overthrow Jaum and free her
people alone...Fortunately for her a tall, dark, and
mysterious stranger arrives. Chewbacca has
stepped away from the Rebellion on a personal
mission. And luckily for Zarro, he's temporarily set
aside his own goals to help the oppressed....[5]

The following day, Zarro and Chewbacca approach the entrance to Jaum's mine. After Chewie scouts the perimeter with his macrobinoculars, Zarro shows him the air vents. She proposes sneaking down with the hoist line so that the indentured laborers can all climb out tonight without risking a fight. However, the Andelm beetle lava sometimes collapse the air shafts so they have to find a stable one. Chewie is wary of getting stuck but Zarro tells her that her plan is to allow herself to get captured. To keep in contact, Zarro has borrowed Chewbacca's transmitter, which is fitted with a homing beacon.

As planned, Zarro is captured by Jaum's guards. As punishment, Jaum orders that her shifts be doubled and that her rations be halved. She finds her father Arrax and her friend Dek and tells them that she has a plan to escape. Zarro uses a shovel to begin digging through a hollowed-out section of the mine. Chewie is able to monitor her movements with another transmitter. While tunneling through an air vent, Chewie has flashbacks of his and his people's enslavement at the hands of Trandoshan slavers. Chewie's work is interrupted when he hears that Zarro has been captured by Jaum's men.

Arrax pleads for his daughter's life but Jaum is unconcerned. Addressing the forced laborers, he tells them that their dealings are reaching an end. Jaum reveals that he has sold the entire Andelm beetle operation including his slaves to the Galactic Empire. The Empire is interested in the Andelm beetles, which contain an abundance of rare organics used in the manufacturing of blasters. He intends to replace his indentured work force with droids. When one of the slave labourers tries to attack Jaum with a shovel, Jaum shoots him dead with his blaster pistol. Sensing labor problems on the horizon, Jaum orders his guards to execute the laborers.

Before the guards can execute their captives, Chewbacca appears behind them and overpowers them. He even kills one with his Bowcaster. After introducing her friend Chewbacca to her father and the other miners, Arrax tells the miners that they have to fight their way out. Using a broken-down GNK-series power droid, Chewie is able to fashion an improvised rod. He uses the rod to disabled a wheeled battle droid. Meanwhile, Jaum learns about the miners' "hairy demon" from one of his guards, who is addicted to spice. Having other plans, Jaum executes the guard with his blaster pistol. While finishing off the battle droid, Chewie is confronted by another guard who challenges him to a blaster fighter. However, the Wookiee knocks him out with the dead GNK power droid.

Arrax and Zarro pass Chewie's bowcaster back to the Wookiee and he searches for a way out. Upon entering the loading bay, the Wookiee discovers that Jaum has fled but left behind crates of Andelm beetle larvae. Outside, Jaum's Shistavanen bodyguard Tyvak fires a blaster bolt at the crates. They intend to blow up the volatile larve and kill the rebellious miners and the Wookiee. The Shistavanen quotes an old saying about Wookiees: "Never let a Wookiee live. Thy bring ill fortune. Kill them wheneverrr [sic] you can."
