Chief Warrant Officer was a rank present in many militaries across the galaxy. It was a higher rank than the Warrant Officer and Master Warrant Officer. A chief warrant officer did not have a specific task as other ranks such as Admiral did, but the chief warrant officer specialized in a particular field that other crew members had little or no knowledge off. Although the chief warrant officer had similar functions to the warrant officer and master warrant officer, the chief warrant officer was able to oversee more delicate operations that might have required more experience. The chief warrent officer was usually very skilled in their area of expertise and was tasked with overseeing the work of warrant officers and master warrant officers. An example of a notable chief warrant officer was Xiong Wong,the head of electronic countermeasures on the New Hope.
