"Beware the wrath of the Fetts!"
Boba Fett[7]

Clan Fett was an ancient Mandalorian clan that could trace its lineage back as far as the Mandalorian Wars. Drawing its name from the Basic transliteration of the word vhett, the Mando'a word for farmer, members of the Fett clan throughout the galaxy's history ranged from simple farmers, to conquering Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, in addition to several mercenaries and bounty hunters throughout the years. Over time, Clan Fett developed a reputation for members who were skilled and ruthless in battle, as well as for their efforts to uplift the Mandalorian people.

History[]

"Funny how I've only really got to grips with my own messy family since I've been talking to a shabla Jedi."
Mirta Gev[8]

An ancient Mandalorian clan, the Fett clan had been in existence since the time of the Mandalorian Wars,[9] thousands of years before the rise of the Galactic Empire.[10] In proper Mando'a, the clan would be referred to as Vhett aliit.[11] Perhaps the earliest member of the Fett clan known to history was Cassus Fett, a Human Mandalorian who grew to infamy as Mandalore the Ultimate's second-in-command in the Mandalorian Neo-Crusader movement that sparked the Mandalorian Wars with the Galactic Republic.[4] The Neo-Crusaders' dreams of conquering the galaxy under Mandalorian rule were dashed, however, by the Jedi Knight Revan, and their armies defeated in battle at Malachor V, ending the Mandalorian Wars.[10]

Millennia later, following the foundation of the peaceful New Mandalorian faction in the aftermath of the Mandalorian Excision, Clan Fett found itself divided among the pacifist New Mandalorians and the traditional warrior clans.[12] By the year 60 BBY,[10] a small family from the Fett clan were making an agricultural living for themselves as farmers on the Outer Rim world of Concord Dawn.[2] Though Concord Dawn was located in the Mandalore sector[13] and had a long history of being affiliated with the Mandalorians,[14] the Fett family living on Concord Dawn were not Mandalorian.[15] The eldest Fett male was a Journeyman Protector, a keeper of law on Concord Dawn; he was married, and was the father of two children, his son Jango Fett,[2] and his daughter Arla Fett.[15] The family owned a farm on the agricultural world, in addition to a speeder and a crop harvester that was used to maintain the farm. Tragedy befell the Fett family when Concord Dawn became the scene of a battle between the forces of the violent Mandalorian splinter group known as the Death Watch, and the loyalist True Mandalorians who opposed them,[2] each faction counting members of the Mandalorian Fett clan among their supporters.[12] The Death Watch leader, Tor Vizsla, tortured and later killed the elder Fett for harboring the current Mand'alor and leader of the True Mandalorians, Jaster Mereel; Fett's son Jango was rescued by Mereel and his soldiers, but his wife was later killed,[2] and his daughter Arla kidnapped by the Death Watch.[15] Nevertheless, members of Clan Fett did serve not only in the Death Watch, but in the New Mandalorian faction as well.[16]

Under Jaster Mereel's fatherly tutelage, Jango Fett followed in the footsteps of his ancestors and became a Mandalorian.[9][2] Maturing into a skilled fighter, by the time Jango was fourteen years old[17]—an adult in Mandalorian culture[14]—he was actively fighting alongside Mereel. That would change in 52 BBY, when the Death Watch ambushed the True Mandalorian army on Korda Six, and Vizsla killed Mereel during the battle. With Mereel dead, Jango ascended to the position of Mand'alor and led the Mandalorians throughout the remainder of the Mandalorian Civil War against the Death Watch up until the Battle of Galidraan, where Tor Vizsla's gift for deceit brought a Jedi striketeam down on the True Mandalorians, under the mistaken belief that they had been slaughtering innocents. The True Mandalorians were defeated, and though Jango Fett killed six Jedi with his bare hands, he was captured and turned over to the Governor of Galidraan, only to be subsequently sold into slavery by the governor. Slavery did not hold Jango for long, however, as he escaped during a pirate raid on the ship where he was being held. Once free, he reclaimed his lost Mandalorian armor from Galidraan's governor and hunted Vizsla to the planet Corellia. There, Jango destroyed Vizsla's ship and after a lengthy fight with Vizsla on the world's surface, left the Death Watch leader to die at the hands of a pack of dire-cats.[2] With the war over, Jango turned to a life as a bounty hunter to make a living.[2] In 32 BBY, Jango was recruited by Count Dooku as the progenitor for a clone army, after proving himself by killing Dark Jedi Komari Vosa.[18] Entering into the service of Dooku, Jango acted as the Count's bodyguard during his time on the planet Geonosis, and engaged several Jedi Knights on behalf of Dooku's newly formed Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Battle of Geonosis. There in the Petranaki arena, Fett faced off against Jedi Master Mace Windu, only to be slain by the veteran Jedi Councilor.[3]

Fett happy family

Jango's demise on Geonosis did not spell the end of the Fett bloodline, for as part of his deal with Count Dooku to allow himself to be the clone army's progenitor, Fett demanded a clone of himself in return. This clone, which Fett named Boba, was brought up as though he were Jango's own son. Boba Fett was raised on Kamino,[3] and received limited early training in the Mandalorian ways by his father before Jango's untimely death.[19] Following Jango's death, Boba claimed his father's ship and armor, and set out to make a living as a bounty hunter.[7] When he was only sixteen, Boba met fellow bounty hunter Sintas Vel; the two fell in love, and were married, settling down together on Concord Dawn. The Fett clan grew with the birth of a daughter, whom they named Ailyn. Their happiness together was short lived: Sintas was raped by a man called Lenovar, whom Fett killed upon learning of his crime. Exiled from Concord Dawn for the murder, Fett and Sintas split up and the two scarcely saw each other again. Ailyn grew to hate her absentee father as she got older, and attempted to kill him later in life.[8] Under the rule of the Galactic Empire, Boba grew into a bounty hunter whose skill and fame even surpassed his father. He amassed a large fortune, taking jobs from the likes of Jabba the Hutt and any who could pay. It was while working for Jabba that Fett was knocked into the mouth of a sarlacc at the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine, sustaining significant acid scarring that, although fading with age, would remain for the rest of his life.[20] Fett escaped the sarlacc and continued his bounty hunting career for many years after, before eventually becoming Mand'alor in accordance with the last wish of a dying Fenn Shysa, the previous Mand'alor.[8] Though he did not give up his bounty hunting career, Fett led the Mandalorians during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy,[21] and helped the planet Mandalore rebuild in the wake of the Vong's attack on the world.[1]

Though Boba had been gone from his daughter Ailyn's life since she was around two years old, life went on for Ailyn and her mother, Sintas. When Ailyn was sixteen years old, Sintas accepted a job in the hope of acquiring enough money to treat her daughter for her birthday. However, Sintas never returned, having been captured and entombed in carbonite.[8] With her mother now gone as well, Ailyn grew bitter and came to hate Boba Fett for leaving. She tracked her father for years, eventually killing a clone she believed to be him.[20] Be that as it may, Ailyn's life was not without some respite from hate. At some point prior to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Ailyn met and fell in love with the Mandalorian warrior Makin Marec; the two were briefly married, a relationship that produced a daughter by the name of Mirta. Though the relationship did not last, Marec began training his daughter as a Mandalorian until he was suddenly killed during a hull breach in space.[1]

Mandalorian wedding

Ailyn raised Mirta to hate her grandfather, Boba Fett, and though it was Ailyn's vendetta that cost her her own life, it also served to reunite Fett with his granddaughter. Married once and subsequently divorced, Mirta—by that time using the surname Gev—attempted to reconcile with Fett after her mother's death.[20] She grew closer to Fett as they spent more time together, and as facts about the past Ailyn hadn't known came to light. During this time, Mirta also became involved in a relationship with Mandalorian soldier Ghes Orade, a relationship that brought the Fett clan closer to Clan Vevut. Mirta and Fett were often partners in Fett's endeavors to halt his terminal sickness,[1] and later to recover Sintas Vel from carbonite. Emerging from carbonite after nearly thirty years, Sintas suffered from severe carbon sickness in the form of blindness and amnesia, and Mirta became determined to help her long-lost grandmother make a recovery. With the help of Jedi Knight Jaina Solo—who was on Mandalore seeking the assistance of Fett—and the Jedi-turned-Mandalorian Gotab, Sintas was able to recover both her memories and her eyesight. Once restored to good health, Sintas was able to make peace with Boba Fett and start a relationship with her granddaughter, Mirta. It was also around this time that Mirta married her lover, Ghes Orade. The marriage formed a connection between the Fett clan and the Vevut clan to which Orade belonged, and the reconciliation between Sintas, Boba, and Mirta marked the potential for a happier and more peaceful era for Clan Fett.[8]

By the time of the Sith–Imperial War, the members of the Fett clan were renown for their skill and ruthlessness in battle. Clan Fett was also known for its cumulative efforts to benefit and uplift the Mandalorian people.[22]

It should be noted that while the clone troopers of the Grand Army shared Jango Fett's DNA, most felt no familiar connection with the man,[23] and aside from Boba, none were true members of the clan. The same held true for any of the clones' many offspring, including the likes of Venku Skirata,[8] the son of the Republic clone commando RC-1136—"Darman" and Jedi Knight Etain Tur-Mukan,[15] or ARC trooper Alpha-98's child with Sheeka Tull.[24]

Notable members[]

Cassus Fett[]

Cassus Fett

"You listen to Cassus Fett, and your son's sons will have nothing to do—because you'll have conquered everything!"
―Cassus Fett[25]

The earliest known member of Clan Fett,[9] Cassus Fett was a Mandalorian human who lived during the time of the Mandalorian Wars. Second-in-command to Mandalore the Ultimate, Cassus spearheaded the rise of the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, and used their more regimented structure and standardized armor as the backbone of the Mandalorian forces during their war against the Republic.[4] Cassus Fett was responsible for the near extinction of the Cathar race,[10] as well as the bombardment of both Serroco[26] and Jebble.[27] A master strategist and the victor of numerous battles, Cassus became one of the most wanted individuals in the galaxy during the war. Cassus was the father of at least one son, and was to be presumed by most to be dead by the time of the Jedi Civil War.[4][28]

Vorten Fett[]

"Su cuy'gar, vod. What brings me the honor of having Mand'alor's chosen in my camp?"
―Vorten Fett[5]

Centuries later, the Mandalorian commander Vorten Fett became a skilled commander and warrior within the Mandalorian clans. He led a thousand Mandalorian warriors during the Invasion of Taris, which ultimately helped secure victories for their allies in the Sith Empire. He was later present at a briefing on Ilum for a joint assault against Darth Malgus's New Empire.

Khomo Fett[]

Khomo Fett

Khomo Fett

""We'll break the siege of our homeworlds and smash Zakuul like in the days of Neo Crusaders!"
―Khomo Fett[5]

Under the leadership of veteran Mandalorian warrior Khomo Fett, Clan Fett was forged into the most powerful clan within the Mandalore sector. However, when the Mandalorians clashed with the Eternal Empire, Clan Fett's zeal for battle cost them greatly as foolish mistakes killed many of the clan's warriors. Despite this, Khomo's name was put forward as an obvious choice for Mandalore's successor, though he refused the honor. Even though Mandalore the Avenger has concerns about his yearning for the glory days of the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, his fierce loyalty to his people made him one of her top advisers and most trusted eyes and ears on the battlefield.

Jango Fett[]

Jango Fett

"Dad came from Concord Dawn. He said his family were frontier farmers. How did he get a Mandalorian name, then?"
―Boba Fett[20]

The son of one of Concord Dawn's Journeyman Protectors, Jango Fett was born into the life of a farmer. When the Mandalorian Civil War, fought between the Death Watch and the True Mandalorians, spilled onto his homeworld, Jango's family was caught in the crossfire and his parents were killed. Taken in by the leader of the Mandalorians, Jaster Mereel, Jango was subsequently adopted into the Mandalorian culture. After a Death Watch ambush on Korda 6 left Mereel dead, Jango took his surrogate father's place as Mand'alor, leader of the Mandalorians, and led the True Mandalorian army until the Battle of Galidraan. There, Jango and the True Mandalorians fell victim to the machinations of the Death Watch, who tricked a Jedi striketeam into believing that Jango's soldiers had been slaughtering innocent civilians. Though Jango managed to personally kill six Jedi with his bare hands, the True Mandalorians were ultimately defeated and Jango arrested. Escaping from captivity, Jango tracked the Death Watch leader, Tor Vizsla, to Corellia and battled him to the death.[2] His loses and time in captivity made Jango a bitter man, and though he was still the Mand'alor, he grew distant from the Mandalorian people,[15] turning instead to a life as a bounty hunter. Chosen by Count Dooku as the progenitor of the clones of the Grand Army of the Republic,[2] Jango adopted an unmodified clone he named Boba as his son, viewing the child to be worth more to him than all the credits the job paid.[23] Though still a freelance bounty hunter,[29] Jango remained in the employ of Count Dooku and his Confederacy of Independent Systems up until his death during the Battle of Geonosis.[3] Jango's impressive skill and Jedi killer reputation made him a symbol of strength for the Mandalorians.[15]

Boba Fett[]

"My dad was killed in front of me when I was thirteen. I was on the run for three years. I married Sintas at sixteen because I thought I could make my life right by doing what normal people did, but I was wrong. I tried to be a Journeyman Protector but I killed a superior officer and I was jailed and exiled from Concord Dawn. And that was the end of trying to be a regular man. After that, I settled on being Boba Fett, because I just didn't know how to do anything else."
―Boba Fett[20]

A clone of Jango Fett, Boba Fett was raised by Jango as his son. Growing up on Kamino,[3] Boba was only just beginning his Mandalorian training under Jango[19] before the elder Fett's untimely death, and thus didn't know much about the culture or how to speak the language.[20] With his father dead, Boba took possession of Jango's ship and Mandalorian armor, determined to forge a life for himself as a bounty hunter.[7] At the age of sixteen, he met and fell in love with the Kiffar bounty hunter Sintas Vel; the two fell in love and married, settling down together on Concord Dawn, where Fett took a job as a Journeyman Protector. Family life for Fett was short-lived: Sintas was raped by Fett's senior officer[8] in the Protectors and Fett killed him in revenge, only to be jailed and exiled for his own crime. After that, Fett and Sintas split up and Fett focused on a renewed career as a bounty hunter, eventually earning a reputation as one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy.[20] Following the death of Fenn Shysa, Boba agreed to the man's dying wish to replace him as Mand'alor,[8] and led the Mandalorian people throughout the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, and found himself dedicated to the restoration of Mandalore following the war.[1] It was also during this time that Fett met his estranged granddaughter, Mirta Gev; though raised by his daughter Ailyn to hate him, the death of Ailyn at the hands of the rising Sith Lord Darth Caedus allowed Mirta and Boba to lay the groundwork for a new, closer relationship.[20][1]

Mirta Gev[]

Mirta Gev

"Mirta behaving herself? Well, at least she hasn't tried to kill you again. It's a good sign. Kids can be such a handful."
"She's a useful pair of fists in a fight."
"She'll produce wonderfully ferocious great-grandchildren for you, Bob'ika."
―Boba Fett and Goran Beviin, discussing Mirta Gev[1]

A Fett by bloodline, Mirta Gev was the daughter of Ailyn Vel—Boba Fett's estranged daughter from his marriage to Sintas Vel—and the Mandalorian soldier, Makin Marec. Raised to hate Fett by her mother and trained to be a Mandalorian by her father, Mirta learned to be level-headed, tough, and resourceful from a young age.[1] Mirta finally met her grandfather, Boba Fett, in 40 ABY, when she played her part in her mother's latest plan to kill Fett. Attempting to lure Fett into a trap set by Ailyn, everything quickly fell apart when Ailyn was captured, interrogated, and accidentally killed by the up-and-coming Darth Caedus.[20] Their mutual grief over the loss of a loved one allowed Mirta and Fett to establish the foundation of a slow but steady relationship that grew over time, made stronger by the time they shared together while seeking a cure for Fett's late-in-life illness. Fett's appearance in Mirta's life also served to bring her deeper into the Mandalorian culture, and while staying on Mandalore, Mirta began to fall in love with the young Mandalorian soldier, Ghes Orade. During all of this, Mirta became interested in the fate of her vanished grandmother, and through her diligence, found that Sintas Vel was not dead, but in fact trapped within carbonite.[1] Fett and Mirta rescued Sintas and released her from carbonite with the help of two of Fett's friends; when it became evident that Sintas had emerged suffering from severe carbonite sickness, Mirta dedicated herself to rehabilitating her long-lost grandmother. Aided in this endeavor by the Force healing abilities of the Jedi-turned-Mandalorian, Gotab, Mirta was able to assist Sintas in making a full recovery. With her grandmother healed, Mirta married Orade not long after, forming a bond between the Fett and Vevut clan to which Orade belonged.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

The roots of Clan Fett date back to the first appearance of Boba Fett in the 1978 animation, The Story of the Faithful Wookiee. The revelation that Boba Fett was in fact the cloned son of Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, released twenty-four years later in 2002, established the Fetts as a family. This canonical facet was later expanded upon with the Jango Fett: Open Seasons comic book series, introducing Jango Fett's parents, and sister, Arla.

www.ambufett.com was a domain name purchased by Lucasfilm before the release of Attack of the Clones. It is possible that Ambu Fett may have been considered as the original name of Jango, or another Fett family member.[30] Another name proposed for the character was J'mee Fett.[31]

"I've never actually successfully collected a bounty before. The other bounty hunters tease me quite a bit. Sometimes I cry."
―Melvin Fett[32]

Melvin Fett was a humanoid male bounty hunter who operated during the time of the Galactic Empire. He was the cousin of the renowned hunter Boba Fett, making his repeated failures at apprehending bounties even more comical to his peers. At some point before 6 BBY, Fett accepted a bounty for the Gungan Senator Jar Jar Binks of the planet Naboo in the hopes of redeeming himself in the eyes of his colleagues. Tracking Binks to the desert world Tatooine, Fett was caught unprepared by the planet's harsh climate, which put him at a tactical disadvantage. Such was his confusion that he mistook a Senator Jar Jar Binks commemorative drinking cup for the Senator himself.
