The Clatear were a species of sentient humanoids that were were recognizable by their horned heads. They had been feuding with their neighbors, the Nhoras, since approximately 580 BBY. Both species lived in a sector that was possibly near Cilpar.

The Jedi Order attempted to mediate the conflict for five generations without success; the feud was, however, interrupted when their homeworld was occupied by the Galactic Empire. After the Imperials pulled out, the Clatear were left with a well-armed military force. During the tensions over the Caamas Document, the Clatear and the Nhoras took advantage of the New Republic's apparent policy of not interfering with local conflicts, and began preparing for open warfare once again.
