For other uses, see shadow trooper (disambiguation).

The clone shadow trooper was a variant of the Galactic Republic's clone troopers,[1] and served during the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[3] At some point at a fiery location, a trooper armed with a DC-15A blaster carbine joined forces with a cloaked individual, who wielded a red lightsaber, out of necessity.[4]

The clone shadow trooper was equipped with an armor that was black in color with white stripes and a helmet with a red visor.[4] The troopers functioned as the predecessors to the shadow troopers, a group of elite stormtroopers equipped with black experimental stealth armor serving the Galactic Empire.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Clone shadow troopers were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Star Wars: Force Collection,[1] a digital card game developed by Konami Digital Entertainment and released in 2013. Even though the launch of Force Collection predates[5] the Star Wars canon reset of 2014,[6] Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee confirmed that the game was kept updated to fit with canon.[7] The troopers were first pictured on a card in the 2017 Star Wars: The Card Game set Swayed by the Dark Side.[4]

Clone shadow troopers originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were created for a Target-exclusive Hasbro action figure from the 2005 Revenge of the Sith toy line[8] and later appeared in Echoes of the Jedi, the fourth adventure in the Dawn of Defiance campaign for Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition, written by Abel G. Peña and Jean-François Boivin and released in 2008.[9] The image used to depict a clone shadow trooper in canon[4] is mirrored from its original appearance in Legends, where it was used in the 2008 Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game set "Squadrons Over Corellia."[10] While the canon usage depicts an uneasy alliance,[4] "Squadrons Over Corellia" depicted the dark side user controlling the clone through Force Corruption.[10]
