Prime clone
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
For a clone to grow, genetic material must be taken from a prime source, known as the prime clone or clone template. The Grand Army of the Republic's host was Jango Fett, a bounty hunter chosen for his incredibly high combat skill and endurance. After completing his last test, the defeat of a Dark Jedi Komari Vosa, a test normally impossible (it was thought that a normal man could never defeat a Jedi), he was chosen and the first 200,000 troops were grown, followed by millions more. Later, Grand Admiral Thrawn would make a cloned army for his campaign against the New Republic using the Spaarti cloning cylinders; for this project, clone templates included Corporal Terkuss, Lieutenant Creb, Baron Soontir Fel, and possibly General Maximilian Veers. Emperor Palpatine survived death by transferring his spirit when he began to grow old, to another youthful host body using the cylinders, his own campaign beginning soon after Thrawn.
