The Companion2000 was a common datapad which weighed less than 1 kg and cost approximately 100 credits. It was produced by MicroData Technologies, which offered a wide range of datapad models.

Description[]

The unit was designed for many tasks, such as writing, information organizing, data processing and reviewing recording rod crystals. It has a touch-sensitive color readout screen for displaying information. Data input could be performed by using a data stylus or keyboard. The Companion2000 had audio inputs and outputs and could send information to transparent lenses so the wearer could multitask.[1]

The hardware came with standard data ports and interfaces. The software was equipped with protocols that could understand dozens of different computer formats. It had a program known as the Galactic Universal Translator (GalUT) that could analyze unknown computer systems and develop programs to allow the exchange of data.[1]
