"The Concordian moon is a province, with its own governor."
Satine Kryze[src]

Concordia was one of two moons orbiting the Outer Rim world of Mandalore. A verdant moon possessing dense forests, the Mandalorians settled Concordia as an agricultural colony. However, during the time of war, the Mandalorians established a vast number of mining camps on the moon in search of beskar iron, a nearly indestructible metal unique to Mandalore and its moon. The overextensive nature of the strip-mining operation almost destroyed Concordia's forests, though by the time of the Clone Wars, they were making a recovery. When the New Mandalorians established their pacifist society, any Mandalorian within that society who still clung to the Mandalorians' historical warrior ways was banished to Concordia, where the New Mandalorians believed they would eventually die out. By the early years of the Clone Wars, Concordia was governed by Pre Vizsla, a public supporter of New Mandalorian leader Duchess Satine Kryze, but secretly the leader of the violent Death Watch splinter faction. Vizsla established a Death Watch base in the abandoned mines, where he worked in secret to rebuild the Death Watch, even after Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered the base.

DescriptionEdit

"I thought Concordia was an agricultural settlement."
"Before the end of our wars, they turned it into a mining base. The sheer number of mining facilities here nearly destroyed our forests. They're finally growing back."

Concordia's rural landscape

Concordia was a temperate moon which orbited the planet Mandalore,[2] the conquered homeworld of the Mandalorians[5] located in the Outer Rim's Mandalore sector.[1] Once a lush moon where dense forests grew, Concordia became an agricultural colony after being settled by the Mandalorians. During the period when Mandalore continued to engage in large-scale warfare,[2] Concordia became the target of beskar iron miners, who scoured the moon for the nearly indestructible metal,[4] nearly destroying Concordia's forests in the process. Even after the Mandalorians' wars came to an end, it was only around the time of the Clone Wars that the Concordian forests began to make a recovery.[2]

HistoryEdit

"Mandalore's violent past is behind us. All of our warriors were exiled to our moon, Concordia."
New Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec[src]
A Mandalorian settlement on Concordia

Dotted in dense forests, Concordia was a lush moon that attracted the attention of the Mandalorians, who settled Mandalore's moon and turned it into an agricultural colony.[2] Then, several centuries prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire,[4] as Mandalore waged another large-scale war,[2] the Mandalorians turned their eye on Concordia seeking beskar iron ore—a nearly indestructible metal believed to be found only on Mandalore, so strong that could even withstand blows from a lightsaber[6]—and thus transformed Concordia into a mining base.[2] These ugly Concordian mines scarred the moon's surface,[4] and so extensive was the strip-mining operation, that the forests of Concordia were nearly destroyed in the effort.[2]

Following the Mandalorians' conflict with the Galactic Republic that turned parts of Mandalore into barren deserts of white sand, a reformist political faction of Mandalorians was born: the New Mandalorians. The New Mandalorians believed in pacifism, and sought to establish a peaceful society unlike the Mandalorians that had come before;[1] any Mandalorian in their society who still wished to carry on the warrior ways of Mandalore's past was banished, and sent to Concordia. By the time of the Clone Wars, a galaxy-spanning war between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, it was generally accepted by the New Mandalorian government that the warriors on Concordia had died out and that the previously active mines had gone inactive.[2]

The Death Watch base, hidden at the abandoned mines of Concordia

At that point in time, Concordia was operating an independent province, separate from the government of the New Mandalorians and ruled by a governor:[2] around 21 BBY,[7] Pre Vizsla was Concordia's governor. Vizsla, publicly a supporter and friend of the New Mandalorian leader, Duchess Satine Kryze, was secretly the leader of the violent Mandalorian splinter group known as the Death Watch.[2] In the years following the Death Watch's fragmentation at the hands of Jango Fett,[8] Vizsla established a Death Watch base in the abandoned mines of Concordia, where he rebuilt the forces of the Death Watch. Vizsla's plans and the Death Watch's secret base were discovered by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Duchess Kryze during a visit to Concordia. Vizsla fought Kenobi to a draw, and a trio of his Death Watch soldiers forced the Jedi Master to retreat with the Duchess.[2] Even still, Vizsla continued to use Concordia and his base there as a staging ground for a planned Death Watch takeover of Mandalore. There, he amassed an army of troops, but before an attack could be made, Vizsla's Separatist ally, Count Dooku, ordered his men to stand down due to the veto of the Republic's Mandalorian defense initiative, a Republic bill that would have sent a contingent of clone troopers to Mandalore and turned the opinion of Mandalore's populace in favor of the Death Watch. Without the backing of Mandalore's population, the Death Watch did not have the strength to take the planet.[9]

InhabitantsEdit

Concordian Governor Pre Vizsla and his armored guards

Concordia was first inhabited as an agricultural settlement, becoming a home to Mandalorian farmers. Later, the moon was transformed into a mining base,[2] and Concordia became a haven for beskar miners, operating the numerous mines littered across the moon's surface.[4] The New Mandalorians banished any Mandalorian from their society who still wished to practice the Mandalorians' warrior traditions to Concordia, believing that they would eventually die out on the moon. By the time of the Clone Wars, Concordia was recognized as an independent province, separate from the New Mandalorian government, and ruled by its own governor.[2] The people of Concordia spoke a dialect of Mando'a—the Mandalorian language—known as Concordian, a dialect shared by the nearby world of Concord Dawn.[2][8]

Behind the scenesEdit

Concordia first appeared in the twelfth episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' second season, entitled The Mandalore Plot. Although The Essential Atlas was the first to state Mandalore was orbited by two moons, Concordia was the first to be named in Star Wars canon.
