Contispex

Contispex was a Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic around 12,000 BBY. His rise to power was aided by the Malkite Poisoners, though this fact was largely unknown. He and his descendants belonged to the theocratic Pius Dea cult that controlled the Republic for 1,000 years. These fanatic Supreme Chancellors sanctioned "crusades" against rival alien sects in the Rim.

Given his religious affiliation, the name "Contispex" may be a play on the title of "Pontifex Maximus," one of the titles for the Bishop of Rome--the Pope of the Catholic Church.
