Coruscant Defense Fleet was one of the fleets in the Republic Navy and later the Imperial Navy that was charged with the protection of the galactic capital world of Coruscant itself. The fleet consisted of Imperial-class Star Destroyers and Assassin-class corvettes. It was first created during the time of the Galactic Republic, then reinstated during the reign of the Galactic Empire and was established by Emperor Palpatine, most likely operating in the same capacity by protecting the Imperial capital world. At the height of Palpatine's reign, then-lieutenant Firmus Piett requested to be transferred to the Coruscant Defense Fleet in order to avoid serving at Darth Vader's side, given Vader's notorious reputation for summarily executing any officer who failed him in any way.
Following the Battle of Endor, the Coruscant Defense Fleet was made of seven Victory-class Star Destroyers, including the Emperor's Will, the Imperator, the Monarch and the Triumph. Director Ysanne Isard reduced this number to only two in prevention of a New Republic attack [1]
A century later, the Sith Lord Darth Krayt of the One Sith re-established a Sith controlled Empire with the Coruscant Defense Fleet being reformed and charged with its age old task of protecting the Imperial capital. During this time, Darth Krayt himself served as the Fleet's direct commander.
