The Courageous was a highly modified YT-1300 light freighter.

Characteristics

Despite coming off the assembly lines as a regular YT-1300, the Courageous underwent several major overhauls right from the beginning of its existence. Designed as a vessel of war, most of the cargo space was taken up by additional power generators. These generators were necessary for the additional heavy weapons and powerful deflector shield generators. The rest of available space was taken over by the massive capacitors of the two turbolasers.[1]
The front part of the freighter was completely rebuilt to reinforce the keel and spine. This allowed the Courageous to carry two forward-firing Taim & Bak XI7 turbolasers of a Nebulon-B2 frigate. Additional armament changed with every new owner, but most of them opted for a top-mounted dual laser cannon turret.[1]
Unlike most other freighters modified as warships, the Courageous did not carry any proton torpedo or concussion missile launchers, because too much space was used by the turbolasers.[1]
HistoryEdit
The Courageous came off the assembly lines of the Corellian Engineering Corporation during the reign of Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum during the days of the Old Republic. It underwent a complete overhaul shortly afterwards and changed owners several times.[1]
The freighter was owned by pirates, operated by planetary defense forces and a bounty hunter. As often as it changed owners, the Courageous was more and more modified and changed configurations.[1]

The Courageous was created for the article A Legacy of Starships, written by Owen K.C. Stephens and illustrated by Jeffery Carlisle, published in Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Gamer magazine. The Courageous was representing the YT-series.
