The covert shroud gambit, as employed by Luke Skywalker.
"Several methods have been suggested over the past few decades for counteracting the covert shroud gambit, none of which has ever been made practical."
Grand Admiral Thrawn[src]

The covert shroud was a strategy in which a smaller ship was concealed within the hull of a larger ship via a quick-release frame that would allow for rapid separation. The tactic was primarily designed to allow the smaller ship to escape if the larger ship was captured in a tractor beam. It was also occasionally used to secretly insert special operations teams onto a planet.

[edit] Behind the scenes

This maneuver is used by Luke Skywalker in The Last Command along with the fact that the destruction of the ship creates reflective particles which would distract the tractor beam computers, and this trick is also called the Covert Shroud Maneuver for some reason, being also called by this name in several other stories as well. A mistake at some point must have caused both of these tricks to be called by the same name.
