"We should list this planet as a potential base in the future. The Empire's not interested, not much space lane traffic in the area, and there's plenty of water."
"Plus it beats Hoth."
"The belly of a sarlacc beats Hoth."
Thane Kyrell and Yendor of Corona Squadron[src]

D'Qar was a verdant planet located in the Outer Rim Territories. By the thirtieth year after the formation of the New Republic, the planet was the location of the headquarters of the Resistance, a small military force formed by Senator Leia Organa to combat the growing threat of the First Order, a successor state to the Galactic Empire.

D'Qar was a planet located in the Ileenium system of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories.[1] An obscure world far from the main space lanes,[8] the remote[3] D'Qar was surrounded by a wide planetary ring that cast a shadow on its forested surface.[6] The lush, jungle-covered terrain did not host any intelligent life, though creatures such as birds and insects called the huge trees and fast-growing roots of the jungle home. Aside from the foliage, D'Qar's surface featured plains and mountains.[3]

Galactic Civil WarEdit

"Corona Two, do you also read negative?"
"Confirmed. Complete negative on Imperial activity. Unless the Empire's drafting small woodland creatures all of a sudden.
―Corona Four and Corona Two[src]

Following the Battle of Hoth, Corona Two, Four and Five of Corona Squadron were sent to D'Qar to investigate possible signs of Imperial outposts and activity. This occurred after reports from deep-cover spies on Coruscant revealed that the Empire had been processing massive amounts of material for the Imperial Starfleet, as well as circulating rumors of a new large-ship construction facility. Nonetheless, after exhaustive scans in the planet's hemispheres, planetary and solar orbits the squadron came up empty and returned to its MC80 star cruiser Liberty.[5]

The Rebel Alliance then established a small outpost on the planet, however the Galactic Civil War ended with the signing of the Galactic Concordance, eliminating the need for a full-scale base to be constructed.[7][1]

Conflict with the First OrderEdit

Thirty years after the Battle of Endor,[9] the outpost was used as the base of operations for the Resistance, a small military force funded by like-minded New Republic senators who feared the growing power of the First Order, a military junta that aimed to succeed the Galactic Empire.[6] Most of the base was hidden underground, with the planet's thick foliage helping to conceal the facility from air and ground sensors.[3]

After the First Order's destruction of the Hosnian system, D'Qar was to be the next target of the First Order's superweapon, Starkiller Base, however the Resistance managed to launch an attack against the weapon, destroying it and its threat to the destruction of the system.[6]

Though D'Qar lacked intelligent life, the planet teemed with a wide variety of species. Large trees with fast-growing roots covered the planet's surface, inhabited by many insects and nocturnal creatures, while flocks of avians dominated the skies.[3]

Behind the scenesEdit

The planet D'Qar was first revealed by the magazine Empire on November 26, 2015.[10] Its location in the galaxy was revealed in its print issue, using a map created for Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary.[1] The planet went on to appear in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
