| Usage and history
A modified DH-17 blaster pistol, the DH-23 "Outback" blaster pistol was built with one principle in mind—durability. Although the DH-23 was inferior to the DH-17 in several respects, including range and stun capability, the weapon featured a more effective heat shroud and tighter construction, making it difficult to break or damage.
The DH-23 blaster pistol required a power pack to operate; after 100 shots, the power pack must be replaced. This weapon had a close-range stun setting as well, meaning the wielder could switch the weapon to fire stun shots instead of lethal fire, however the close-range stun setting was limited to a range of only 9 meters. The DH-23 blaster pistol cost 500 credits to purchase, but its ownership and use was regulated by local authorities.
