The parents of Dak Ralter, once children of the Old Republic, were political prisoners of the Imperial labor colony on Kalist VI. They were imprisoned in the early days of the New Order. Shortly thereafter, their son, Dak, was born into captivity. As their son grew up, mother and father filled his head with tales of the wonder and delight that existed in the galaxy before the coming of the Empire. These stories were all that kept the youngster going.
When they learned of their son's plans to escape the penal colony, they eagerly encouraged him in the venture, knowing it might be his only chance at a life of freedom. They also knew they would only hamper his plans by trying to go with him, insisting he leave them behind. Although it was a difficult decision for him to make, Ralter escaped from Kalist VI with his parents remaining in captivity.
