Daniel Mindel is a South African-American cinematographer who has notably worked with film directors Ridley and Tony Scott in his career. He has also worked with director J.J. Abrams on the films Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek, and Star Trek Into Darkness. On August 22, 2013, Mindel confirmed that he will serve as Abrams' cinematographer once more on the upcoming 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The announcement came one day before cinematographer Gilbert Taylor, who originally filmed Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, passed away.
