Darkmeld was a covert Jedi organization created and led by Jedi Knight Jaina Solo. The creation of Darkmeld was informally sanctioned by acting Grand Master Kenth Hamner in 43 ABY; amidst tensions between the New Jedi Order and the government of Natasi Daala.[1]
Solo created Darkmeld as a means of actively, but secretly, undermining Chief of State Daala's efforts to take control of the Jedi Order. The group included Jedi Knight Tekli and was aided by former Jedi and Sith-turned bounty hunter, Tahiri Veila, and Imperial High Moff Jagged Fel. The group was instrumental in capturing Seff Hellin, who had succumbed to a strange Force illness; this allowed them to study his condition in the hopes of finding a cure, and prevented Daala from encasing him in carbonite as she had Valin Horn, who had earlier developed the same disease.[1]
Jag and Jaina were initially unsure whether or not to add Mirax Terrik Horn to the group, as Darkmeld was supposed to be kept secret from the Jedi Masters, which meant Terrik Horn would have to keep the group's existence a secret from her husband. They eventually decided to include her anyway.[1]
Jedi Master Cilghal, a member of the Council, who was the only known Master in regular contact with Grand Master Luke Skywalker, found out about Hellin, and joined Darkmeld shortly thereafter.[1]
