- "Be careful Maladi, that you do not scheme for scheming's sake. Do not become so enamored of your plotting that you lose sight of your goal."
- ―Darth Krayt[src]
Darth Maladi was a female Devaronian Sith Lord in Darth Krayt's new Sith Order c. 130 ABY. Cold and cruel, as opposed to her hateful and passionate comrade Darth Talon, she was the head of Sith Intelligence and Assassination, adept in the ways of inquisition and torture, and a specialist in the art of mental manipulation. A skilled scientist, she tirelessly experimented with ways to pervert science to serve the Sith cause. She was responsible for the sabotage of the Ossus Project and also manufactured and dealt ixetal cilona[1].
She had an antagonistic relationship with Grand Moff Nyna Calixte, her counterpart in Imperial Intelligence.

[edit] Biography
Lady Maladi was one of the Sith who was present when Darth Krayt assumed the Imperial throne in 130 ABY. However, she was unable to predict that Emperor Roan Fel would escape the meeting of his Moffs before Krayt's arrival and use a decoy to misdirect the Sith. She was punished by the self-appointed Emperor Krayt for this failure.
She later set up her laboratory in the Temple of the Sith, where she interrogated Jedi Master Hosk Trey'lis on the whereabouts of Cade Skywalker. After much torture, Maladi succeeded in breaking the will of the Bothan healer.
Later on, acting on Krayt's orders, she sent Darth Kruhl to infiltrate Bastion and kill Roan Fel using the defection of the Star Destroyer Dauntless as bait. However, after the mission failed, she personally killed Governor Vikar Dorn, who had been part of the plot and sent back by Fel. But she expected that outcome and told her master it was the matter of finding someone who they could mold into an assassin, in which Fel would not suspect.
After Cade Skywalker was captured by Darth Nihl and Darth Talon, Lady Maladi met with the Moff Council via holographic projection and instructed them to cancel the search for Skywalker. She later tortured Cade Skywalker in order to bring him closer to the Dark Side of the Force. On Krayt's orders, she also implanted altered Yuuzhan Vong coral seeds within Deliah Blue and Jariah Syn.
Later on, she counseled Nihl when he showed resentment about the treatment Talon received from Darth Krayt when he felt that he was more deserving of special attention from him, reminding Nihl that, unlike Talon, he had not been born a Sith. When Nihl mentioned that Maladi was born a Sith and still not invited into the chamber, Maladi said she did not question Krayt's decisions, except why he was keeping Skywalker alive.
After Skywalker escaped their clutches, Maladi was busy tending to Nihl and Talon, who were both maimed by Skywalker. The pirate Rav soon contacted her, swearing the Bloody Bones oath of loyalty to her and promised to give any information regarding his former apprentice in exchange for credits.
[edit] Personality and traits
Maladi had a cold, cynical personality that could easily be seen during her torture sessions. She wasn't sociable at all due to her closed, dark personality and she cared very little about the way people thought about her. She was very obedient to Darth Krayt and didn't believe in questioning him, except at his decision of Skywalker's fate. She also took pleasure in torturing others and inflicting pain.
[edit] Behind the scenes
- Darth Maladi's name is a phonetic play on the word "malady", referring to a disease or an unwholesome condition, tying in with similar Sith names such as Plagueis. It can also be taken as having the double meaning of "M'lady", as an honorific referring to her gender.
- Jan Duursema redesigned Darth Maladi after deciding that her initial design (pictured to the left) was too "sexy," and thus too much like Darth Talon. The redesigned Darth Maladi was meant to look more tightly wound. In a chat at TheForce.net, Duursema jokingly agreed that Maladi was supposed to be a bit "emo."
