The Central Core of Death Star I was the massive structure running down the middle of the space station. It contained the Tractor Beam Reactor Coupling tower, which was 35 kilometers tall.

It was in here where Obi-Wan Kenobi deactivated the Death Star's tractor beam, allowing the Millennium Falcon to escape.
