"I had those moments on Rogue One with the kids, but I don’t think anything can top that first day on set on The Force Awakens entertaining the cast and crew. For me that’s what Star Wars is all about, and to be in that environment knowing that there are a certain few, if not everyone, who get it, who still get those goose bumps from time to time has to be the best feeling in the world."

Dee Tails was born on December 6, 1976 in London, England.[1] His career started as a member of the R&B pop band MN8,[4] which achieved seven hit singles in the United Kingdom,[5] and international success in several countries.[6] Their 1995 debut single "I've Got A Little Something For You" was featured on the Bad Boys soundtrack.[7] The same year, they released their first album, To the Next Level.[5] Shortly after, Tails went with MN8 as Janet Jackson's supporting act on the European leg of her tour.[8] In 1996, MN8 released Freaky, their second studio album.[9] The band broke up in late 1998, and the members branched out to pursue solo careers.[4]

After the band, Tails started to develop his acting career. He pursued theater roles, portraying Tommy the Cat in Dick Whittington and His Cat at Queen's Theatre.[10] In 2005, Tails portrayed a Gotham City police officer in Batman Begins. He continued to seek out minor roles, portraying Jules in the 2009 film Barry Brown.[11] Tails featured in a 2011 Nescafe commercial filmed in South Africa, which portrayed him beside a piano.[12] In 2013, he appeared in the film Captain Phillips[13] as a UKMTO Operator. Throughout 2015, he appeared in in four episodes of Jekyll & Hyde as the Harbinger.[14]

Star Wars workEdit

Dee Tails as Cratinus

"I love Cratinus and K-OHN it’s hard to say which I love more, but if it wasn’t for my performance as Cratinus I doubt if I would’ve even have been seen for the L-1 droid let alone have Neal vouch for me. I have to say I love them both, these two Star Wars films have been beyond my dreams coming true and I have to take them as the individual moments they are and truly be grateful."

In 2015, Tails portrayed Cratinus in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.[15] He was originally set to play one of the Hassk triplets, but those roles went to other actors. Neal Scanlan, the creature effects supervisor for the film, reassigned Tails to be Prashee's brother Cratinus. During filming, Tails and Tom Bell, who was playing Prashee, stayed at their table in order to appear in the background throughout the recording shoots.[2]

Based on his work as Cratinus, Neal Scanlan vouched for Tails' talent, and in 2016, got him a role as the droid K-OHN[2] in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[11] Though his costume was changed several times, he learned to adapt to his new masks by improvising with other actors on set.[2] In 2017, Tails physically portrayed the character Slowen Lo in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[16] with Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing the voice work.[17] In 2018, Tails was cast as Quay Tolsite in Solo: A Star Wars Story.[3]
