Defection
Defection was the act of an individual giving up allegiance to one state or political entity in exchange for another. Throughout galactic history there had been numerous examples of individuals defecting from one entity to another.

- Following the destruction of Alderaan, a number of Alderaanians who had been serving the Galactic Empire defected from the Empire and joined the Rebel Alliance. Tycho Celchu is one of the most notable Alderaanian defectors.[1]
- After the Death Star destroyed Despayre and Alderaan, a small group of beings stationed on the battle station decided to leave the Death Star. Those in the group who survived traveled to Yavin 4 after the destruction of the Death Star, and defected to the Rebel Alliance.[2]
- Commander Zaletta defected from the Empire after the Battle of Hoth, and joined the crew of the Liberty as tactical officer. He later died when the Liberty was destroyed in the Battle of Endor.[3][4]
- After witnessing the death of Lieutenant Patra Tebut at the hands of Darth Caedus, Captain Kral Nevil became disillusioned with the Dark Lord, and defected to the faction of the Galactic Alliance led by Admiral Cha Niathal following the Second Battle of Fondor.[5]
