The Delegation of 2,000 was the name for a group of concerned senators in the Galactic Senate, many of whom were part of the Loyalist Committee. These 2,000 individuals were bothered by the way that Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine had waged the Clone Wars; along with his accumulation of executive powers and changes to the Galactic Constitution. During the Cantham House meetings,[5] the group created the Petition of 2,000. The petition formally protested Palpatine's actions and demanded he return to the Senate the emergency powers he had claimed following the conclusion of the war.[6]

The day after the formation of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence arrested 63 senators on charges of conspiracy and treason, several of whom were part of the Delegation of 2,000.[5]

Behind the scenes

The Delegation of 2,000 appeared in deleted scenes of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. These scenes were also featured in the film's novelization, which depicted Padmé Amidala as a key member of the group,[7] but the novel is now considered part of the continuity of Star Wars Legends and not canon.[8]
