- "I got what I thought was a deal on this ship."
- ―Bosbit Matarcher, on his malfunctioning Delemedian starhopper
A Delemedian starhopper was a type of starship in use during the later years of the Galactic Republic that had a crew consisting of at least one individual. In 212 BBY, Bosbit Matarcher, a Human male from the planet of Delemede, purchased a starhopper on his homeworld that had malfunctioning relativistic shielding. Matarcher thought he got a good price on the ship, but when he activated the starhopper's hyperdrive and entered hyperspace, the faulty relatavistic shielding left the ship and everything aboard subject to time dialation, where the ship experienced time at a slower rate than the rest of the galaxy. The starhopper, with Martarcher still alive onboard, did not exit hyperspace until the year 22 BBY. By that time, the starhopper was considered an antique. Martarcher's starhopper was mentioned in a HoloNet News article about Martarcher as part of the edition of HoloNet News that was released on the twenty-first day of the third month of the year 22 BBY.[1]
Behind the scenes
Edit
The Delemedian starhopper was first mentioned in an in-universe HoloNet News Vol. 531 48 article that was titled "225-year Old Man's Secret? Time Dilation." The HoloNet News volume, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens, was released on March 21, 2002.[1] The starhopper was indirectly mentioned in Bosbit Matarcher's entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, which was published by Del Rey on December 9, 2008.[2]
