Deleted Magic
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
"Deleted Magic", completed in 2005, is a fan-made documentary by fan Garrett Gilchrist about the deleted scenes of the first Star Wars (and clips from Empire and Jedi), and about how the movies were made and edited together. It directly takes from information, sources and home-video releases officially released by Lucasfilm. It is by no means endorsed by Lucasfilm in any manner. This project was not an official Lucasfilm project - it was an unofficial, not-for-profit research project, by a Star Wars fan. To avoid litigation from Lucasfilm it was made available for free, in DVD quality, via the Internet.
It combines all sorts of alternate, deleted and making-of footage into a full-length film that gives a view of how Star Wars was edited together. In addition to deleted scenes like the Biggs Darklighter material, viewers got a sense of this particular fan's interpretation of the "Lost Cut"s of the films - the longer edits that didn't have finished voices or effects.
In 2009, the major deleted scenes of Star Wars were revisited. Most of these scenes had only been released in low quality, 12 frames per second, on CD-ROMs in the late 90s. The program, Twixtor, was used by Gilchist to generate new frames and restore these scenes to 24 frames per second. He decided to animate several scenes by hand and restore the Jabba the Hutt scene further. This ultimate fan-made version, "Deleted Magic Revisited" was freely released over torrent sites in June 2009.
