Doctor Demagol was a Mandalorian Neo-Crusader scientist, who served under the banner of Mandalore the Ultimate during the Mandalorian Wars. After the capture of Flashpoint Station by the Mandalorians, all Jedi prisoners were sent there to be studied by Demagol, in hopes of finding the secret of their powers to negate and/or replicate them, not understanding the complexity of the Force. Though not a warrior, Demagol enjoyed a high status among the Mandalorians and was regarded as a rival by Cassus Fett. He was also believed to have been among Mandalore the Ultimate's advisers, however he refused to don Neo-Crusader armor.[1]

Republic Intelligence did not know his species, age, or even true name; "Demagol" was a contraction of demar agol, meaning "to carve flesh." In later years, Sergeant Kal Skirata stated that the name Demagol could be translated either "sculptor of flesh" or "butcher."

Demagol had a personal assistant named Pulsipher, who was eagerly planning to succeed him.[2]

In the years leading up to the Mandalorian Wars, Demagol participated in the capture and evaluation of conquered alien species on the Outer Rim, but Republic Intelligence reports indicated that Demagol, or someone by that name, was active much farther back. Aside from Mando'a and Basic he could speak multiple alien languages, such as Arkanian, Bocce, Bothese, Durese, Ithorese, Miralukese, Rodese, Selkath, Shyriiwook and Snivvian language.[1]

Demagol's prisoners included Alek Squinquargesimus and Jarael, who was mistaken for a Jedi. Demagol was surprised when he looked at Jarael though. He knew that she was an Arkanian offshoot but something else about her shocked him and he immediately wanted to test her next. He never got the opportunity, however. As he was about to take her in, Rohlan Dyre brought another Jedi to him and demanded he be tested next. The Jedi was Zayne Carrick.

After being put in his lab, far from the eyes of the other Mandalorians, Rohlan attacked Demagol and released Zayne. Rohlan locked Demagol inside a storage cabinet as Zayne stole his armor and left the building. After the Mandalorians had escaped (due to their belief that the Republic was attacking), Demagol was taken back to Coruscant by the formerly captured Jedi.[3] However, en route to Coruscant, Demagol fell into a drug induced coma and could not be awakened for trial.[4]

One day, though, on Coruscant, Demagol was looked over by a nurse when he had finally awakened. He began muttering about searching for the Jedi at Flashpoint. Surprised, the nurse called the guards to report this news to the Ministry of Defense immediately.[5]

Alek Squinquargesimus, now known to the galaxy as Malak, brought Demagol to the Ministry of Defense for trial. He wanted to make sure that the sadistic scientist was made an example to the law.[6]

Later generations of Mandalorians introduced the word demagolka (derived from the Doctor's name, and meaning "someone who commits atrocities, a real-life monster, a war criminal") to the Mando'a language. This came because later Mandalorians held Demagol in contempt for his cruel experiments (some even on children), making him a figure of hate and dread for any member of the warrior clan.[7] In 19 BBY, the Mandalorian Mij Gilamar compared the scientist Professor Reye Nenilin to Demagol as a subtle insult, as Nenilin did not know who Demagol was.[8]

Some perceived inconsistency in Rohlan Dyre's behavior has led to speculation Demagol switched armors with him to get on board the Last Resort.[9][10][11][12][13] However, this has not been confirmed.

Whether intentional or not, Demagol's cruel experiments mirror those of Josef Mengele who experimented on prisoners in his custody during the reign of the Nazis.
