- "But the Derra system is rumored to have a strong Rebel presence. I'll make sure to have some forces waiting there."
- ―Lord Darth Vader
Derra IV was a planet in the Derra system of the Kanchen sector, located in the Expansion Region. It was a minor world of little value and had been relatively overlooked by the Empire early in the Galactic Civil War. This made it an ideal site for Rebel Alliance operations.

History
Edit
Since before the Battle of Yavin, Derra IV had been the site of an outpost and storage dump for the Rebellion.
As of 1 BBY, its governor was Dol Donar II.
Early in 3 ABY just days before the Battle of Hoth, it was the site of a crushing ambush in which Imperial forces destroyed a vital Rebel convoy and its escorts on their way to Hoth. The ambush was led by (and credit claimed by) Darth Vader but masterminded by Grand Admiral Thrawn.
In 7 ABY, Kyle Katarn infiltrated a massive Imperial Garrison located next to the planet's coastal capital city after breaching its perimeter through an old partially sealed-up storm drain, thoroughly crippling and paralyzing its communications network as well as every one of its defenses. These actions allowed a New Republic force to invade and sweep the planet, successfully liberating it from Imperial control.
Behind the scenes
Edit
The PC game Star Wars: Rebellion mistakenly places the Kanchen sector and, consequently, Derra IV, in the Outer Rim Territories.
