Desertwind was the name given to the Jedi who accompanied Nejaa Halcyon and Ylenic It'kla on a mission to uncover the Sith in the final months of the Clone Wars. He is so named because he is only named in a Caamasi memnis; the Caamasi species, who possessed an acute sense of smell, tended to identify individuals based on their unique scents.

[edit] Behind the scenes

His true identity is still unknown, but suggested individuals include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and A'Sharad Hett. The most likely is Obi-Wan Kenobi, as Jensaarai philosophy equated him with Darth Vader as a Jedi exterminator, and they would have no reason for this unless Kenobi was indeed present at the death of Nikkos Tyris.

Another detail, that points to Kenobi would be the precise way of speaking (a mark of Kenobi's Coruscanti accent), that Corran Horn noticed in the vision of how his grandfather died and that the Jedi Master seemed somehow familiar to him.

However, should Desertwind be Kenobi, either the date(s) of the Yumfla mission would need to be retconned, or it is another wholly different character than the three mentioned above. It has to be noted too in the canon movies Obi-Wan Kenobi would probably not have naturally smelled of the desert, since he did not live on Tatooine at this time. The clothes worn by Desertwind are described as like those Kenobi wore, but this was the most common Jedi clothing style.

Another possibility, though the scent he is identified by would most likely belie this, is Ranik Solusar - Kam Solusar's father, who may have looked enough like his son to cause a sense of familiarity in Horn, as Horn and Kam spent a possibly large amount of time together at the Academy. This would be explainable as Yumfla was described as in the desert on Susevfi, and so however it was, the man could very well have smelled of the desert wind, giving the name.
