Desolation Station was an asteroid-based Imperial facility that was used to construct and transport materials to the under construction Death Star. It was destroyed during a Rebel Alliance mission led by the Force-sensitive clone X2 and the Jedi Knight Rahm Kota, with several Wookie slaves also being freed. The Station had a factory that served as the main source for producing the Death Star weapon systems. It's construction was originally overseen by X2's brother, Commander X1, until someone else took his place. That commander later fled as Desolation Station was destroyed, and X1 punished him for his failure by execution.

With the loss of the Station, the Death Star's construction was delayed by only a few days, as another Station was secretly prepared to be used should the original Station ever be destroyed.
