The Ritual of Nathema was an event that happened shortly after the Great Hyperspace War.

Following the defeat of the Sith Empire at the hands of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, Sith Lord Vitiate invited the remaining Sith Lords to a meeting on his homeworld of Nathema, a planet on the outskirts of the Empire, where he and the other Sith Lords would together perform a ritual to unleash the dark side and gain additional power to use against the Jedi. While some refused Lord Vitiate's offer, many more accepted, not suspecting Vitiate to be any kind of threat. Once the unsuspecting Sith Lords arrived, Vitiate broke their wills, enslaving the Lords and forcing them to take part in a complex magical Sith ritual. When the ritual was over, he completely destroyed the Sith Lords and all life on Nathema touched by the Force, absorbing their life forces, thus giving Lord Vitiate immortality. Afterwards, Nathema-once a lush and fertile world- became a lifeless and dead husk stripped of the very Force itself.
