The Dragon-class heavy cruiser was produced as part of Emperor Palpatine's Doctrine of Fear, designed to intimidate entire planets into submission.

The ship was designed to resemble some beast out of the collective nightmares of all humanoid species. It stretched ominously from its vaguely head-shaped bow ending in a multiple-gun tower emplacement that resembles a deadly tail. Hangar bays sat open on either side of the bow like great maws, ready to release a store of 24 TIE/ln starfighters for attack, reconnaissance, and patrol missions.

Only one ship of this type was ever produced, the Galaxy Dragon, which was operated by Moff Delurin.
