- "Rex! Droid poppers, now!"
- ―Ahsoka Tano
An Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) grenade, also called a droid popper,[9] was a type of grenade that utilized electromagnetic emissions. They could be used to disable a battle droid's circuits[1] or to incapacitate humans.[2][4] When used against stormtroopers,[10] it overloaded their armor electronics,[11] though its effectiveness depended on distance and placement relative to the target. They were used by the Jedi and their clone troopers against the Separatist Droid Army during the Clone Wars.[9]
Behind the scenes[]
Electro Magnetic Pulse grenades first appeared in The Courtship of Princess Leia, a Star Wars Legends novel written by Dave Wolverton[12] that was released on April 1, 1994.[13] They became canon when they appeared in "Duel of the Droids," the seventh episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season,[5] which originally aired on November 14, 2008.[14]
