Droid shield was the name given to the types of protective shielding that were available to be installed on droids primarily for the purpose of protection from energy, electrical, sonic and ion damage. These barriers, depending on the price a droid owner was prepared to pay, were composed of many different types of materials and had been developed by skilled armor and weaponsmiths such as the Baragwin.There were several varieties of shields available, for example: Energy collectors, which absorbed harmful energy or the Environment shield, which protected from harsh environmental conditions.

It is probable that in most instances droids are equipped with shielding, even if it is not specified. Droid shields gain significance primarily as game mechanics.
