The ECM-598 was an all-purpose emergency medical kit developed by the Chiewab Amalgamated Pharmaceuticals Company. The backpack was quite commonly used by Medics.

The backpack contained a wide array of medical devices and medicines, including:

• Various medicines, such as anesthetics, anti-venom, anti-radiation, and blood pressure regulators contained within a medicine dispenser
• Diagnostic scanner for determining vital signs and recommended treatment
• Emergency procedure database, complete with tutorial for non-medics
• Laser scalpel, universal plasma fluid sacks, pressurized sterilization bandages and heat-insulating blanket
• Filtration mask, pressurized cuffs and portable repulsor-stretcher with 150 kilogram weight limit
