Eckerd was a soldier who served in the Republic Military during the Great Galactic War with the Sith Empire. Originally a member of Sergeant Fideltin Rusk's first squad, Eckerd worked with Karsim and Naja to free a group of prisoners from an Imperial outpost and was later recruited into the Republic Special Forces's black ops division by General Garza. Renamed the Surgeons, the unit was sent after Imperial leaders, but soon began to target the enemies' families and were subsequently arrested for war crimes. Eckerd and the others were imprisoned on Berrun with life sentences, though their records still claimed they were on active duty.
