An eel cage was an aquatic torture device used by Separatist military leader Riff Tamson to detain and interrogate Jedi prisoners during the Battle of Mon Cala.
Description[]
The eel cage consisted of four Mon Calamari eels bound by a set of binders to create a restraining device. Captives were placed inside the cage with the electricity generated by the eels preventing them from leaving. Interrogators could drive an eel inward to touch the captive, causing them to experience a painful electrical charge.[1]
History[]
During the Battle of Mon Cala in 20 BBY, Separatist commander Riff Tamson used several eel cages to imprison and torture Jedi Master Kit Fisto and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker in order to uncover the whereabouts of the Mon Calamari Prince Lee-Char, the leader of the Mon Calamari resistance against the Separatists and their Quarren allies.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The eel cage first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Prisoners," which premiered on Cartoon Network on September 23, 2011. While it was not identified by name during that episode,[1] they were described by the name "eel cage" on concept art that appeared on the official StarWars.com website after the episode's first broadcast.[2]
