Egg timers are mentioned in Han Solo at Stars' End, a 1979 novel by Brian Daley. Eggs exist in the Star Wars universe, but this item's relation to them, if any, is not stated in Daley's book.
In real life, egg timers are timepieces designed to help chefs in the preparation of eggs. Traditionally, they are hourglasses filled with sand and once the device is flipped, the amount of time it takes for the sand to fully trickle out of the top bulb is approximately how long an egg should boil. The phrase "egg timer" has come to be synonymous with "hourglass."[3] The analogy in which an egg timer is mentioned in Han Solo at Stars' End mentions filling one on the desert planet of Tatooine.
