Elephant
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
An elephant was said to be a creature as large as a bantha, though without the bantha's tremendous looped horns.[1] The shape of an elephant's head was similar to that of a Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft.[2] The term "white elephant" was sometimes used to describe an unwanted ornament.[3]
[edit] Behind the scenes
An actual elephant never appears in any source, though is often mentioned when describing other objects in the galaxy, such as a bantha.
Siiruulian Phantele - the real name of Max Rebo, is obviously a play on "Cerulean Elephant".
Elephants from Earth were actually quite significant in the production of the Star Wars films. In A New Hope, an Asian elephant named Mardji played the bantha.[4] The movements of the AT-ATs seen in The Empire Strikes Back were also based on footage of Mardji walking.[5]
Elephants were also used in the sound design of the films. The sound of a TIE fighter's engines were the mixed result of cars streaking past and the trumpeting cry of an elephant.[6]
For The Phantom Menace, the design characteristics of the Multi-Troop Transport was based on a massive elephant.[7]
