[edit] Biology

Lirondo, a horned male Equine.

At least some male Equine had horns, although this may have not been a universal trait, and might have been a sign of maturity; it is unknown whether females ever grew horns. Other features included long, pointed, goatlike ears, large, wide-set eyes, blunted teeth, and a long, whispy tail.[1]

The elder Lord Farfalla ruled the Equine people. He was persuaded to lead his people to join the Republic by Pernicar.[1]

Valenthyne Farfalla, the Lord's son, became a Jedi Knight. He led a force of 300 Jedi, many of who were members of the same species, including his lieutenant, Lirondo.[1]

[edit] Behind the scenes

This species has not been given a canonical name. In the comic Jedi vs. Sith, Farfalla was described as being hotheaded because of his "equine" blood, hence the conjectural name.[1] When asked about Farfalla's species, Leland Chee stated that 'Equine' was not the species name. Rather, he considered all pointy-eared species to be derivations of the Sephi species.[2] However, Farfalla's species also had goatlike legs and horns (but horselike hooves), which the Sephi lack. Therefore, it is likely this is actually an unrelated species or distant offshoot analogous to the many near-human branches of humanity.

Like many of the alien species in Jedi vs. Sith, the Equine species is evocative of several figures in real-world mythology and folklore, specifically fauns and satyrs, with a mix of goatlike and "equine" (horselike) traits.
