- "The last Gormak must not die. There was no discussion. The interpretation was clear. If every Gormak dies, every Voss dies. This is true. Wage war but do not win. Survive. For total victory is death."
- ―The Writings of Jadek-To
The Eternal War of Voss was waged by the Gormak and the Voss for centuries prior to the accidental discovery of the planet Voss by the larger galaxy, just after the Treaty of Coruscant in 3,653 BBY. The Gormak, a pre-flight humanoid race with an innate aptitude for using technology, outnumbered the Voss by millions and believed they were a plague upon their world that needed to be destroyed for the Gormak to flourish. Gormak Tribes would routinely attack the mountain-top stronghold city of Voss-Ka, but were always defeated by the fortifications of the city, the foresight of the Voss Mystics, and the discipline of the Voss Commandos. Although the Gormak sought to completely eradicate the Voss, the Voss had a strict law forbidding the destruction of the Gormak, enacted after a prophecy by their Mystics.
After Voss was discovered, the Empire sought to conquer the planet and the Republic sought to occupy it to defend it in response. The Voss Mystics, previously unknown to off-worlders, revealed themselves and defeated both occupation forces. This skirmish almost restarted the Great Galactic War, but peace was maintained and both off-world governments established embassies in Voss-Ka to curry favor with the Voss. The Gormak viewed this association with disdain, and considered the off-worlders as allies of the Voss, showing them the same uncompromising hostility.
