Evasive action (tactic)
- "Take evasive action! Green Group, stick close to Holding Sector MG-7!"
- ―Admiral Ackbar at the Battle of Endor
Evasive action was a catch-all term that was used throughout space warfare, particularly in starfighter combat. When an order to 'take evasive action' was given, it usually meant for all ships for whom the order pertained to do all they could to evade enemy fire. This was accomplished in a variety of ways; for starfighters it meant to engage in wild maneuvering in order to spoil the aim of attacking enemy craft; for capital ships it could mean maneuvers that either accomplished the same effect, or simpler changes in positioning in order to present stronger shields toward incoming fire.
Evasive action could also be ordered when a large fleet element encountered an obstacle in space, such as an asteroid field or a Death Star, the latter being the case at the Battle of Endor.
