FWG-5 flechette pistol
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
The FWG-5 flechette pistol, also known as the smart pistol, was a handheld flechette launcher manufactured by Malaxan Firepower Incorporated.
The FWG-5 was smaller and easier to handle than the Golan Arms FC-1 flechette launcher, and had the stopping power of a heavy blaster pistol. It was loaded with flechette-filled pellets instead of heavy canisters, and featured a miniature laser tracking system that tagged targets with an electronic homing signature. This enabled the weapon's pellets to track and follow the target's movements, and make a course correction while in flight. Upon reaching a range of three meters from the target, the pellet exploded, releasing hundreds of flechette darts in a two meter radius, capable of piercing blast vests and even stormtrooper armor. The effect of the flechette cloud was that the target would seem to disappear. Even the best of the Jedi couldn't block these. A Force push aimed at a pellet would simply make it bob in the air, the sheer velocity and the tracking feature of the pellet however would often allow it to continue on its course unhindered. Further varients of the pistol were created, the most common of these featured a wrist-stock and fired heat based laser bolts, and was frequently used by professional pistoleers, who favored precision over messy results. Another, which was known as the Featherweight FWG5, was constructed of super-light materials for more dexterous handling. In addition to these target seeking flechette rounds however, was an explosive round, and armor piercing round option. An explosive round was basically a homing flechette round devoid of its darts, it had been filled up with thermite, and upon contact, would explode with enough force to punch a hole through Durasteel. An armor piercing round was a two piece pellet. unlike the other pellets however, one end of the pellet was sharp, much resembling a bullet. Upon firing the pellet, it would streak to its target, on hitting a target, the pellet would explode, sending the pointed end of the pellet deep into its target. Despite their small size, they were very powerful, able to pierce walls and durasteel.
