Rise of the Empire era

"If we were given just one word of information in our entire history, how we'd treasure it! How we'd pore over every syllable, divining its meaning, arguing its importance; how we'd examine it and wring every lesson we could from it. Yet today we have trillions of words, tidal waves of information, and the smallest detail of every action our government and businesses take is easily available to us at the touch of a button. And yet... we ignore it, and learn nothing from it. One day, we'll die of voluntary ignorance."
―Hirib Bassot, on Facing Facts[src]

Facing Facts was a politically oriented show broadcast on the HoloNet on a channel called HoloNet News and Entertainment during the Clone War, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and militant secessionists. Shortly before the show's cancellation, due to low ratings, at some point before the Galactic Empire's rise in 19 BBY, a current affairs pundit named Hirib Bassot appeared on the program. Bassot used his broadcast time that day to lament civilization's neglectful attitude towards edifying itself.

Behind the scenesEdit

A quotation from Bassot's appearance on Facing Facts is used to preface the third chapter of Karen Traviss's Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel, which was released in 2008.
