The Fang fighter, also known as the Protectorate fighter, or as the Protector Fang Fighter was a model of starfighter designed and used by the Mandalorian Protectors.

The Fang fighter was equally lethal in atmospheric combat

Fang fighters were fast[1] and highly maneuverable[10] ships designed specifically for combat. The craft's narrow attack profile[11] and swivel-mounted wings that provided vectored-thrust control gave the fighter unmatched agility.[10] These features allowed Fang fighters to perform maneuvers which few other ships were capable of, including the deadly Concordia Face Off maneuver.[11]

Fang fighters were armed with wing-mounted laser cannons and a proton torpedo launcher beneath the cockpit that allowed a pilot to launch a deadly salvo before their quarry realized the vessel was carrying ordnance.[4].

All Fang pilots were personally trained by Fenn Rau, leader of the Protectors during the Age of the Empire.[3]

At some point following the Battle of Yavin, the Alliance to Restore the Republic acquired Fang fighters for use as powerful anti-vehicle air support in its conflict against the Galactic Empire.[9]

Behind the scenesEdit

The Fang fighter made a simultaneous first appearance in "The Protector of Concord Dawn,"[12] the thirteenth episode of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels' second season,[13] and in the comic Kanan 10: First Blood, Part IV: The Mesas of Mygeeto.[8] Both the episode and the comic were released on January 27, 2016.[14][15] Later that same year, Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game released the Protectorate Starfighter Expansion Pack, providing additional details about the fighter.[1]

In a December 2016 update for the mobile game Star Wars: Commander, Fang fighters became available for use by players in their bases.
