- "Greetings, Padawans. Greetings, Knights. Greetings, Masters Lanius and Devan. I am called Felanil Baaks. I am a crafter of lightsabers."
- ―Felanil Baaks[src]
Felanil Baaks was a Duros Jedi Knight and Jedi artisan who taught Jedi how to craft lightsabers.
[edit] Biography
- "As for Baaks, he's one of the most engaging individuals I've ever spoken with, and he knows more about lightsaber construction, history, and theory than anyone in the galaxy, I'd say. We're happier to have him on Almas than I can possibly convey."
- ―Lanius Qel-Bertuk[src]
Baaks was trained at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he received instruction in lightsaber combat from Master Yoda. Baaks never took to lightsaber combat, and Yoda jokingly referred to him as a master of "Form Zero." Baaks crafted a lightsaber for Mace Windu, who gave it as a gift to one of the Padawans trained at Almas Academy. Later, Baaks left Coruscant and traveled to Almas Academy himself, where he taught his artistic crafting skills to the Jedi at the school.
When Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declared Martial Law in the Cularin system during the Clone Wars, many of the Jedi on Almas chose to exercise the Right of Denial, refusing to serve as officers in the Grand Army of the Republic. Although not exiled from the Order, these Jedi were compelled to surrender their lightsabers to the Jedi Council. Baaks used his talents to illegally equip these Jedi with new lightsabers.
