Fighting droids were small and colored spherical entertainment droids that were made to fight each other for amusement and gambling purposes in a game known as droid ball fighting. Spheres of the same color could to clump together in order to form fiercer fighters. Around 30 years after the Battle of Endor,[2] several patrons of the pirate Maz Kanata's castle on the planet Takodana were watching a fight between several fighting droids on one of the venue's tables.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Fighting droids first appeared in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which was released in 2015.[1] They were not identified in the film, but received a name in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo and released to coincide with the film.[2]
