"In case you're wondering, yes, I'm a droid, but I'm also a licensed Guild hunter."
―2T-DS, Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook[1]

2T-DS was a successful droid bounty hunter who was a member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. At one point, he retired from bounty hunting and became the personal assistant to the Guild's Associate Managing Director of Accounts. Sometime between 19 BBY and 0 BBY, 2T-DS wrote a chapter for the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook educating new Guild hunters about the different ways of learning of new bounty postings as well as several other topics related to working as a bounty hunter. One copy of the book subsequently came into the possession of the bounty hunter Greedo, and both he and the book's later owners, the hunters Bossk, Dengar, and Boba Fett, each annotated the work, including the chapter authored by 2T-DS.

Biography[]

Hunter and author[]

"My intention is to show you not only how to procure potential clients, but also what you need to know about clients' various financial and legal concerns pertaining to the posting of bounties. The money and the law are your concerns, too, so make it your business to know them."
―2T-DS, Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook[1]

2T-DS was a droid who at one point operated as a bounty hunter and a licensed member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. Over the span of his career, the droid collected bounties on 209 individuals, and for three consecutive years, he was listed as one of the top ten hunters who brought in the most revenue for the Guild. Eventually, 2T-DS ceased being a bounty hunter himself and instead joined the Guild's administrative team, becoming the personal assistant to the organization's Associate Managing Director of Accounts.[1]

2T-DS wrote a chapter for the Updated Imperial Edition of the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook.

At one point between 19 BBY and 0 BBY,[2] 2T-DS authored "Employment Opportunities," one of the eight chapters of the Updated Imperial Edition of the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook. The chapter provided an overview of the two main services—the Imperial Enforcement DataCore maintained by the Imperial Office of Criminal Investigations and local bounty posting agencies—used by bounty hunters during the reign of the Galactic Empire for obtaining information on posted bounties while also briefly covering the fees for posting bounties and the Bounty Hunters' Guild's use of information brokers.[1]

2T-DS's chapter of the book then informed the reader about non-standard bounty postings by the Empire's military and intelligence services as well as postings by civilians, including both corporations and private citizens. The chapter went on to discuss the benefits for bounty hunters in using the services of expeditors and the considerations to take into account when delivering live or dead acquisitions to the originators of bounties. At its conclusion, the chapter written by 2T-DS commented on the particularities inherent in bounty hunting on behalf of the kajidic organizations of the Hutt species or in territories owned by corporations. Anticipating questions on behalf of the book's readers about his status as a droid, 2T-DS prefaced his chapter by stating his own successful record as a bounty hunter.[1]

Comments on 2T-DS's text[]

"He could snag a million bounties and I'd still hate droids."
―Bossk, annotation in a copy of the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook[1]

A copy of the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook's Updated Imperial Edition came into the possession of the hunter Greedo[1] at some point by 0 BBY,[2] and he annotated the text of the book, including 2T-DS's chapter in two instances. At the passage noting the advantages of using various individuals as sources of information for bounty hunting purposes, Greedo remarked on his own experience with a janitor at a cantina of the Mos Eisley spaceport settlement, and in the section discussing operations in corporate-owned territories, the hunter made a note for himself of researching employment opportunities in the Corporate Sector.[1]

Bossk NEGTC2

The bounty hunter Bossk expressed his dislike for 2T-DS while annotating the text authored by the droid.

After Greedo's death, his copy of the book passed into the ownership of the bounty hunter Bossk, who likewise made comments in 2T-DS's chapter. The hunter, who harbored a dislike for droids, noted that[1] he[3] would hate them even if 2T-DS had successfully collected "a million" bounties. Later in the chapter, where 2T-DS had referred to bounty hunters not actively keeping themselves informed about new bounty postings and local planetary regulations as a sign of "ignorance," Bossk treated the droid's remark as an insult. The former also expressed his confidence about the chapter's falsity in noting the Imperial Security Bureau's practice of employing a list of select bounty hunters.[1]

The bounty hunters Dengar and Boba Fett likewise commented on the text of the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook authored by 2T-DS. Dengar annotated the section on bounty hunting in corporate territories, claiming that the practice was only suited for hunters that were pedantic about optimizing their operating expenses. Fett in turn noted that the description of the information broker Kud'ar Mub'at contained in 2T-DS's chapter was out of date[1] as the hunter had since personally witnessed Mub'at's overthrow.[3] In response to 2T-DS's text, Fett also gave his opinion on the realities of working with the Empire—the hunter cast doubt on the veracity of the droid's statement that the government dutifully verified all claims of wrongdoing that originators of bounties submitted to posting agencies. In addition, Fett stated that the occasional deaths of bounty hunters' acquisitions after they had been turned over to the Empire for transportation to the bounty posters were never "accidental," as the chapter by 2T-DS claimed.[1]

Characteristics[]

"I've secured bounties for 209 criminal meatbags, and was listed among the top 10 money-earners for the Guild for three consecutive years before I joined the administrative team. I won't bother asking what you've done lately."
―2T-DS, Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook[1]

2T-DS was a humanoid-shaped droid with metallic gray plating, yellow-colored illuminated panels—a larger one on his chest and two smaller ones on his head—and black optical sensors. 2T-DS's lower torso, arms, and legs all resembled[1] those of 3PO-series protocol droids.[4] 2T-DS displayed a sense of superiority over other bounty hunters' accomplishments when writing a chapter for the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook. In the chapter, the tone of the text by 2T-DS expressed little tolerance for incompetence on the part of the readers—new members of the Bounty Hunter's Guild—and he referred to the individuals he had tracked down during his bounty hunting career as "criminal meatbags."[1]

Behind the scenes[]

2T-DS was introduced in the 2013 book The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett, which was authored by Daniel Wallace, Jason Fry, and Ryder Windham.[1] The illustration of the droid was based on Ian Fullwood's depiction of the[4] Guardian Corps[5] war-robots that was included in Wallace's 2006 reference book The New Essential Guide to Droids.[4]
