"We have more than a dozen active battlefronts on Anaxes. And we are losing nearly every one. But if Admiral Trench can no longer anticipate our moves, we now have the opportunity to retake the planet."
―Mace Windu[8]

Anaxes was a rocky planet located in the Azure sector in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories. A majority of its surface was covered with tall, red plant-like life. It was a vital world of the Galactic Republic for its role in protecting the Core Worlds from attacks along the Perlemian Trade Route as well as its shipyards.

In the early years of the Imperial Era, the planet was destroyed in a cataclysm, with the remains becoming an asteroid belt.

Description[]

Anaxes landscape

The landscape of Anaxes

Anaxes was a rocky and jungle planet[6] located within the Azure sector[9] of the Coreward edge of the Outer Rim Territories,[1] and was the homeworld of the silicon-based[9] fyrnock species. The jungles were filled with tall, red plant-like life that were likely also silicon-based.[5] The planet also possessed hills and grasslands, where agriculture was practiced, and was the origin of the Spiral Dumplings delicacy.[10]

History[]

Anaxes, situated along the Perlemian Trade Route and on the Coreward edge,[1] was an ancient member of the Galactic Republic, hosting a Republic naval base protecting the Core Worlds from attacks along the Perlemian,[11][2] as well as prominent shipyards.[5] For centuries, it primarily worked with local defense forces.[2]

Anaxes UnfinishedBusiness

Anaxes from space during the Clone Wars

Anaxes returned to galactic prominence during the Clone Wars.[2] Remaining loyal to the Republic, in the last year of the war the planet was attacked by a Confederate fleet under the command of Admiral Trench, as part of the Outer Rim Sieges.[5] The Separatists were initially winning the battle, due to Trench's exploitation of a Grand Army of the Republic strategic algorithm captured with the ARC trooper Echo—who was believed to have died earlier in the war. After Echo was rescued from the Techno Union on Skako Minor, Republic forces hacked into the transmissions of Trench's flagship, the Invulnerable, ordering him to commit his forces to the assembly complex—where they would encounter Jedi Generals Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the 212th Attack Battalion. After the droid forces were neutralized, Trench was killed by Anakin Skywalker and his flagship destroyed, and the Republic was able to claim victory.[8]

After the Clone Wars, Anaxes was destroyed by a cataclysmic event,[6] believed to be the result of a catastrophic main reactor failure detonating a massive stockpile of hypermatter in the shipyards.[2] All that remained of the planet was an asteroid belt.[12] Fort Anaxes, a Republic Military base constructed on Anaxes during the Clone Wars, survived the planet's destruction and remained on the planetoid PM-1203.[13]

Behind the scenes[]

Anaxes originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, first being mentioned in the sourcebook Coruscant and the Core Worlds, where it had a long history as one of the Galactic Republic's primary military strongholds.[14] It made its first Legends appearance in the video game Star Wars: Empire at War.[15]

Before the initial cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2013, a four-part arc featuring Anaxes had been under production. After the series' cancellation, the episodes of the "Bad Batch" arc were shown in story reel form at Celebration Anaheim in 2015.[16] Around the same time, the first season of the follow-up series Star Wars Rebels had the Spectres visit Fort Anaxes, now located in an asteroid field, in the episodes "Out of Darkness" and "Gathering Forces."[12][17] The official Databank confirmed that the abandoned military base was the same one featured in the Bad Batch arc, and thus that Anaxes had been destroyed in the intervening time.[6]

Anaxes finally appeared properly when a completed version of the Bad Batch arc aired as part of the seventh and final season of The Clone Wars, which debuted on Disney+ in 2020.[5] Despite previous canon works placing Anaxes in the Core Worlds,[18][19] Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy places Anaxes in the Outer Rim,[1] and author Jason Fry confirmed the Lucasfilm Story Group had its location changed. Nevertheless, Fry was allowed to place where the relocated world was on the galactic map and write its entry in Battles that Changed the Galaxy,[20] establishing Anaxes to be on the Coreward edge of the Outer Rim.[1] A map within the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel later placed Anaxes in the Core.[21]
