DM-7 was a droid whom the Toydarian junk dealer Watto hired to kill the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn following the conclusion of the Boonta Eve Podrace on the planet Tatooine in 32 BBY. Along with four other hirelings, DM-7 ambushed Jinn in a deserted Mos Espa backstreet, but the Jedi Master roundly defeated his assailants, leaving the droid a shattered ruin.

DM-7 appears in Episode I: Qui-Gon Jinn, a one-shot comic written by Ryder Windham and illustrated by Robert Teranishi that ties into the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Although neither of Watto's hirelings is directly named in the story, DM-7's name is provided in the comic's script, according to Star Wars Galaxy Collector 6. Based on the character's name, this article assumes a basic association to identify DM-7, the only droid among the group.
