The Defender 03-Z was a model of battle droid that saw use during the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. Similar to the Defender 01-X but with the addition of a personal shield, the Defender 03-Z carried a blaster rifle, and a number of them were deployed to protect the satellite control tower on the Markaran Plains of the planet Balmorra.[1]

Defender 03-Zs appear as enemies in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, where they can be found in the Markaran Plains as part of the mission "Calling All Droids" in the Imperial version of Balmorra.[1]
