This article is about the starship component. You may be looking for the Energizer Bunny.

"These ion engines have always lent themselves beautifully to sabotage! Nudge one energizer out of alignment... and the recharge system becomes a time bomb!"
―Anduvil on ion engines[1]

Energizers were starship components necessary for the recharging systems of P-s4 twin ion engines present in spacecraft like the TIE/LN starfighter, in use by the Galactic Empire. Energizers were sensitive devices that needed to be properly aligned to work as intended. Misalignment of energizers in ion engines was dangerous, as they could explode like a time bomb.[1]

Sometime after 0 ABY,[2] Rebel Alliance intelligence operative Anduvil destroyed the Imperial garrison base[1] on the Outer Rim planet[3] Tatooine, by infiltrating the hangar bay and misaligning the energizer of a TIE fighter's ion engine, causing an enormous blast that destroyed the military installation.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Energizers were first mentioned in the 1979 comic strip Tatooine Sojourn, written by Steve Gerber and distributed by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. The story was later reprinted in color in the fourth issue of Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures, published in November 1, 1994 as part of the Classic Star Wars comic book series. The newer rendering made some slight changes to Anduvil's dialogue in the sabotage scene. In the first edition, Anduvil specifically mentioned the energizer, but this mention was omitted in the rereleased version.
